Demo on the gas action day

Friedrich Merz and Katherina Reiche are making us dependent on oil and gas. Instead of generating electricity from wind and sun, they want to drill for gas off Borkum and in Reichling. Instead of promoting affordable heat pumps, they are leading a pointless and expensive culture war for gas heating. Instead of building up local power generation, they are backing Trump and American liquid gas. Rich's closeness to the gas lobby is a symptom of a federal government that is not even trying to meet statutory climate targets. Which is prepared to accept hotter summers, droughts, floods and pandemics for the sake of lobby interests.

That is why we are taking to the streets. We are calling for a plan to phase out gas. A policy that makes heating climate-neutral and affordable. A policy that makes us independent of autocrats and sudden price jumps on the oil and gas market. That leaves the gas in the ground near Borkum and Reichling. That uses wind and sun instead of abolishing subsidies. A policy that ensures that we can still look the next generation and the generation after that in the eye.
