Kultur & Kampf: Berufsverbote und rechte Kulturpolitik

In 2018, the Hamburg Parliament decided to "regret" the practice of banning people from practicing their profession under the 1972 "Radicals Decree". But the regret itself is short-lived: in October 2025, the Hamburg Senate decided to introduce a regular inquiry with the Office for the Protection of the Constitution. New recruits to the civil service are to be checked for "anti-constitutional activities" by means of a constitutional protection inquiry.

The fifth edition of the Culture & Struggle series looks at the bans on professions back then and the threat of bans today. But intimidation is not only prevalent in the public sector. In culture, too, more and more artists are being confronted with rejections, disinvitations and intimidation. In conversation with Arian Nuri from the 'Hamburger Bündnis gegen Berufsverbote' and Jonas Rahm, chairman of Ver.di Kunst und Design, the two scenarios will be put into context to see how resistance to regressive policies can be organized.

The talk will be framed by music from Asal Karimi (violin) and David Mohr (guitar and vocals).
