Two women, a road trip and the question: what is the meaning of life? Lisa Roy captures the millennials' attitude to life in her new novel.

Jana Doktor is almost thirty, recently separated and has temporarily moved back in with her parents. Her promotion is floundering and she is pregnant after a one-night stand, so everything is not so golden right now. This time she doesn't want to take her brother, the only person close to her, into her confidence as he has just become a father.

In a snack bar in Cologne, Jana meets a woman who is very different from her: self-confident and clear. But Miral is also at a turning point. The two women spontaneously set off on a road trip to Italy, which, after a secret sip of holy water, holds an unexpected experience for Jana: an epiphany? Or is she gradually losing her mind?

Lisa Roy tells a laconic and warm-hearted story about the search for meaning and belonging, for faith, family, love and friendship in a confusing world.

Lisa Roy was born in Leipzig in 1990 and grew up in the Ruhr area. She studied in Dortmund and Cologne and has published in various literary magazines and anthologies. In 2021, she received the Rolf-Dieter Brinkmann Scholarship from the City of Cologne and the GWK Prize for Literature for her work on her first novel Keine gute Geschichte . Lisa Roy lives with her family in Cologne.
