"How should we deal with this constant flood of horror stories from all over the world?" asks Wolfgang Kaleck in his explosive new pamphlet (Kunstmann Verlag) in view of the massive violations of international law. Systemic injustice and crimes against humanity have always existed. What is new, however, is the force with which international law and its institutions are being attacked today. The fundamental question arises as to whether international law is strong enough to withstand this storm or whether the law of the jungle will simply apply in the future.

In an interview with political scientist Stephan Bierling, Wolfgang Kaleck, internationally renowned criminal law expert and legal supporter of whistleblower Edward Snowden, among others, shows how necessary it is right now to hold on to the "utopian project" of international law. Because despite all the shocks and setbacks, it represents immense progress on the way to a fairer world.
