It is the best holiday for everyone who loves books: April 23, World Book Day, has long been a reading festival around the globe. The literary festival includes the big reading gala, broadcast live by Bayern 2.

Originally a charming tradition from Catalonia: On this day, you give your family, neighbors, girlfriends and yourself a book as a gift. UNESCO has long since declared "World Book Day" a day of action for reading, books and the culture of the written word. The Literature Festival celebrates it with star authors Doris Dörrie ("Leben, schreiben, atmen", Diogenes), Meike Winnemuth ("Eine Seite noch. Warum Lesen uns so glücklich macht", Penguin) and Literature Festival curator Dana Grigorcea ("Tanzende Frau, blauer Hahn", Penguin). #BookTokerin and bestselling author Josi Wismar shows how she uses social media to inspire young people to get involved in writing via livestream. And cabaret artist Christian Springer will accompany the evening as a trenchant sidekick.

There will also be wonderful chanson pop with the hottest band of the moment: Florian Paul & die Kapelle der letzten Hoffnung.

Also present: booksellers, publishers, podcasters and lots of passionate readers.
