LOUISE STOMPS — Konturen des Inneren

In the organizer's words:

LOUISE STOMPS - Contours of the Interior
27.3. to 28.6.2026

The sculptor Louise Stomps (1900-1988) led an uncompromisingly independent life as an artist. Her work revolves around existential experiences such as love, grief, hope and loss. Based on classical modernism, she developed a formal language that carefully detached itself from the figure - although the human figure always remained a central point of reference in her increasingly abstract works.

With around 45 sculptures, some of them large-format, made of stone and wood, 30 drawings and prints, as well as a film documentary produced especially for the exhibition, the Kollwitz Museum Cologne now invites visitors to rediscover the life and work of this artist, who for a long time was unjustly rarely exhibited.
