Lecture by Dr. Arie Hartog, Director Gerhard-Marcks-Haus, Bremen
From 1919, women were able to study at art academies in Germany. This meant that, in theory, a career as an artist was open to them. We know to some extent what women painters and graphic artists achieved, but what about women sculptors in the 20th century?
Arie Hartog takes a look at the history of female sculptors in the last century. Who do we know, who has been discovered in recent years and who perhaps needs to be introduced to a wider audience. In his lecture, he takes the audience on a foray into the female side of the history of sculpture.
