Masterclass: Melissa de Raaf
Melissa de Raaf was born in the Netherlands and has lived in Germany since 2004, where she studied art history and philosophy. In addition to her work as a screenwriter, Melissa de Raaf has been teaching as a professor of dramaturgy and cinematic storytelling at the Academy of Media Arts Cologne since 2018. She has worked on the following films and screenplays: First of all, Felicia (2009) with Răzvan Rădulescu, Podslon (2010) directed by Dragomir Sholev, The subtle differences (2012), directed by Sylvie Casey-Michel as well as La Incorrupta (2016) and Ensaio (2018), by Tamar Guimarâes.
Cinematic storytelling means organizing events and objects as well as the development of characters over time. The Masterclass deals with the development of cinematic material, especially with regard to narrative forms of art film, in the context of the film series on the Nouveau Roman. In the master class, four projects will be selected and discussed as examples in order to explore concrete techniques and strategies of research, the organization of text material and the development of characters.
