On this evening there will be a film and a lecture in a double pack: The Plastic Bag Store by Robin Frohardt is a much-acclaimed puppet film artwork, created from an immersive theater project between garbage, magic and everyday fantasy. After the screening, puppeteer Jamie Shannon will give a talk about his three decades of puppetry work for film and television. The audience can ask questions afterwards.

Film: The Plastic Bag Store by Robin Frohardt

The Plastic Bag Store is a large-scale, immersive puppet theater project that combines film and installation, live theater and puppetry. It premiered in Times Square in 2020 and has since toured Los Angeles, Chicago, Adelaide, Austin and Australia. The live performance was later filmed and transformed into a magnificent piece of puppet film art, which we would like to show here.

Robin Frohardt (USA) is an award-winning theater and film director known for her expressive aesthetics and richly detailed constructions. In her narrative films, puppet shows and sculptures, she uses familiar materials, often trash, to create richly detailed worlds that bring magic to the mundane and highlight the banalities of life.

She has received a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Creative Capital Award, several Jim Henson Foundation grants and the Herb Alpert Prize for her theater work.

For over three decades, puppeteer and filmmaker Jamie Shannon has been unintentionally terrifying children on television. In this hilarious live show, the creator of "Nanalan", "Mr. Meaty" and a whole host of highly questionable creatures tells the strange stories behind some of the most disturbing puppets ever seen on TV.

Jamie Shannon (CAN) is a writer, director and puppeteer with over 30 years experience in producing puppet shows and specials. He has created and developed numerous shows and characters for Disney (Ooh, Ahh and you), The Henson Company (Labyrinth: Live, The Legend of Rasputin), Nickelodeon (Mr. Meaty), PBS (Nanalan), and the BBC (Big and Small), not to mention working with Sia, Spike Jonze, and Apple on cool other projects.
