In love with life, love and the Elbe, Wolfgang Borchert wrote some of the most touching poems about the sea, longing and his home city of Hamburg. But he also wrote texts about war, loss and homelessness. Johannes Kirchberg, a Hamburg resident by choice, discovers these poems for himself and lends them a very special sound through his music.

In this intense stage program, Kirchberg's interpretations, which are based on classical chanson, and excerpts from letters and stories show Borchert as a seeker, a man scarred by war and yet full of humour.

With charm, lightness and attention to detail, Kirchberg tells of Borchert's relationship with music, his parents and his love affairs. Borchert as a voice of German post-war literature has his say, as does Borchert as a precise observer of the seemingly banal.

Johannes Kirchberg gives a voice to the distanced author of timeless poetry, and thus 'Meine Seele ist noch unterwegs' is a tribute to the poet.
