With the MUNIQ JAZZ FESTIVAL , a new festival for jazz and improvised music will take place for the first time in Munich's Kreativquartier on June 19 and 20, 2026 . Organized and curated by the niq kollektiv - an association of young musicians from the Munich scene - the festival sees itself as a platform for encounters, exchange and artistic experimentation.

Two carte-blanche formats take center stage: Leipzig percussionist Eva Klesse and Munich trombonist Moritz Renner are each developing new ensembles with musicians with whom they have never worked before. Eva Klesse will be working with a line-up from the Munich scene, while Moritz Renner is putting together a band from outside Munich. This will create new constellations between the local and national scene with unprecedented music.

In addition to the Carte Blanches, the festival program spans an organic arc from internationally acclaimed acts such as the band Fazer to sweetlive, the quartet of up-and-coming Austrian saxophonist Yvonne Moriel. (Austrian Jazz Award 2024) Pianist Svetlana Marintchenko - nominated for the German Jazz Award this year - will be playing with her trio as well as the lyrical duo of Fiona Grond & Luca Zambito, both important members of the Munich scene and multiple award winners.

With ZIRKA and the Skathalle in Munich's Kreativquartier, the festival is also opening up new spaces for jazz in Munich. With MUNIQ JAZZ FESTIVAL, the niq kollektiv is focusing on an open, experimental festival idea - and giving Munich's independent jazz scene a new stage with an external impact that can make waves throughout the German-speaking world.
