Obsession - You shall love me

Curry Barker's award-winning horror sensation is about the young music store employee Bear, whose most fervent wish is to fall in love with his childhood friend Nikki. Then he comes across a mysterious object that magically causes Nikki to fall head over heels for it. But his dream is short-lived: the touching devotion of his beloved soon turns into a monstrous obsession, like a curse from which there is almost no escape.

Just as the Philippou brothers made a name for themselves with their YouTube clips before TALK TO ME, Barker's low-budget prankster horror film MILK & SERIAL also caused a sensation online. OBSESSION - DU SOLLST MICH LIEBEN is far more than just another genre contribution about obsessive love, because instead of clichéd romance, the film unfolds a disturbingly dense atmosphere. Physically oppressive situations meet psychological tension until the structure between desire and reality dissolves into something eerily strange. The movie clings to us painfully, much like Nikki clings to her forced object of desire. Barker is not going for loud shock moments, rather he plays with different (also humorous) tones, with desire and toxic fixation and with a camera that forces us to experience every border shift, uncomfortably intense and therefore so strong.
