Orpheus - gifted poet, singer and musician, wanderer between worlds, tragic lover. The legends surrounding the mythological figure have inspired numerous writers, musicians and visual artists over the centuries. The myth has also been taken up many times in dance history, for example by Gaetano Vaestris (1774), Henri Justamant (1877), George Balanchine (1948) and not least by Pina Bausch (1975). Students on the Dance Composition course at the Folkwang University of the Arts explore Orpheus and some of the many themes anchored in this myth: with the aim of a personal and contemporary approach, they interweave different genres and materials, explore connections between the past and the present and adopt new perspectives on this iconic narrative.
