QUEERHISTORYMONTH

QueerHistoryMonth will take place in Hamburg from May 1 to 31, 2026(www.queerhistoryhamburg.de). Various events as part of the festival will bring the history(ies) of the queer community in Hamburg to life. Everyone is welcome - kings, queers, queens, allies, friends, families (of choice) and everyone in between and beyond!

The event

The tour through the former Stadthaus focuses on the life stories of queer people and their persecution under National Socialism.

The Stadthaus on Neuer Wall/Stadthausbrücke was a center of terror under National Socialism. It was home to the police headquarters and the Gestapo and criminal investigation departments.

On the tour through the "Stadthöfe", Ansgar Tonya Karnatz will focus on the crimes committed by the police stations located there and the consequences they had for thousands of persecuted people. On the occasion of Queer History Month, the focus is on the life stories of queer people whose persecution was organized in the Stadthaus.

The offer is barrier-free . During the guided tour, the "Seufzergang" will be explained and its location shown. It is only accessible via a staircase and is not part of the regular tour.
