QUEERHISTORYMONTH
QueerHistoryMonth will take place in Hamburg from May 1 to 31, 2026(www.queerhistoryhamburg.de). Various events as part of the festival will bring the history(ies) of the queer community in Hamburg to life. Everyone is welcome - kings, queers, queens, allies, friends, families (of choice) and everyone in between and beyond!
The event
On this evening we want to invite you to learn more and discuss with us what dynamics arise as soon as we tell, record and archive memories and history(ies) for ourselves and a public, however defined.
An evening by and with A Thousand Channels, Heike Schader and guests
We deal with the memory and description of feminist and queer history from different perspectives. On this evening, we would like to invite you to find out more and discuss with us. What dynamics arise as soon as we tell, record and archive memories and history(ies) for ourselves and a public, however defined?
How were terms understood at the time and what shifts occur when they are interpreted today? Which stories are retold, which are overlooked, which are excluded and which are lost? Which accesses to knowledge are created, which are denied and what role does language play in this as a space of power and possibility?
In our view, a culture of remembrance is always a political and perspective-driven act. A critical examination of one's own positions is necessary.
On this evening in the open space of the MK&G, we and our guests will present different aspects and approaches. We are planning short spots on the Lacune-Map (about lesbian traces in Hamburg from the 1920s to the 1990s), on the discourses in the Hamburg women's newspaper, on different perspectives of queer archiving and on the power of language.
In between, there will be space and opportunities for discussion and exchange as well as the viewing of printed and digital materials and maps.
