QUEERHISTORYMONTH

QueerHistoryMonth will take place in Hamburg from May 1 to 31, 2026(www.queerhistoryhamburg.de). Various events as part of the festival will bring the history(ies) of the queer community in Hamburg to life. Everyone is welcome - kings, queers, queens, allies, friends, families (of choice) and everyone in between and beyond!

The event

City tour through Hamburg: courageous women love women, lived hidden, fought visibly. Discover stories of love, resistance, emancipation and self-assertion

Women who loved women have often lived in secret throughout history - and yet they were always there. On this city tour, we meet courageous, creative and unwavering women who moved beyond social norms:

• Women who earned their living in men's clothing and were even married to other women.
• Women who founded Hamburg's first women's center as wealthy heiresses.
• Women who made their mark in the courtroom with political T-shirts.

We tell their stories at various stations in the city - between emancipation, love, resistance and self-assertion. The tour offers exciting insights into a largely suppressed past of lesbian history in Hamburg.

You will be accompanied by Reingard Wagner and Karin Schönewolf, who will guide you through the walk with a great deal of knowledge, empathy and passion.
