QUEERHISTORYMONTH
QueerHistoryMonth will take place in Hamburg from May 1 to 31, 2026(www.queerhistoryhamburg.de). Various events as part of the festival will bring the history(ies) of the queer community in Hamburg to life. Everyone is welcome - kings, queers, queens, allies, friends, families (of choice) and everyone in between and beyond!
The event
Queer life paths between confusions and decisions. A double reading. Two queer authors read from moving life stories about coming out, identity and liberation - and invite people to share their experiences and perspectives.
Queer Zeitzeug:innen Hamburg has been enriching the city's culture of remembrance since the summer of 2025 - now two of its authors are inviting you to a special reading in the teahouse in Planten un Blomen.
Olav Meyer-Sievers will read from his novel Diffuse Light: in it, 16-year-old Tom experiences an early coming-out in the 1970s. So everything is clear? Not really - instead of clarity, his path to adulthood is characterized by uncertainty, inner conflicts and social constraints. For him, life perspectives are often shrouded in thick fog.
Hans-Arthur Marsiske tells of a completely different, equally moving life path: it was not until he was in his sixties that he decided to visibly question gender roles - a man does not have to dress masculine. A step of liberation that requires a daily confrontation with social expectations.
Two perspectives, two generations - and yet united by the search for a self-determined life.
Afterwards, the authors cordially invite you to a discussion. An opportunity to listen, ask questions and think further together.
