Sarella Vargas: Love is not enough

Love Is Not Enough is a solo theater piece about transnational adoption - personal, performative and socially critical. The starting point is the biography of actress Sarella Vargas, who was born in Peru and adopted to Germany. On stage, she deals with loss, identity and belonging and questions common narratives of adoption as a "happy ending". The play combines autobiographical material with literary texts, dance, song, video and language changes between German and Spanish. The narrative is fragmentary and non-linear - it moves between memory, the present and staging. Humor is a survival strategy, a moment of self-empowerment and a tender resistance to simplification.
The production includes photos and video footage from the performer's life, including documentary material from Peru, which was taken when she reunited with her biological family.
Love Is Not Enoughinvites us to engage with an often marginalized perspective - and to endure loss, ambivalence and the search for belonging.
