Marriage and partnerships seem more fragile today than ever before. On the other hand, surveys show a consistently high desire for a lifelong commitment in a couple's relationship. Why do so many couples still fail? What causes do sociology, psychology and couples therapy see? What influence does society have? What does trust have to do with the success of a marriage? What can couples work on?

Dr. Anna Schönhütte studied history, politics, Jewish studies and Catholic theology in Cologne, Bonn and Jerusalem. She wrote her doctoral thesis on trust in couple relationships and has worked intensively on the success of marriages and partnerships. She works as a consultant for ethical and religious education in healthcare at the Diözesan-Caritasverband Köln.
