About the show:

In the roughly 300,000-year history of modern man, there hasn't been a moment when war hasn't been waged somewhere in the world. Although most of the earth's inhabitants seem to be against it, there are few endeavors that Homo sapiens is as reliable at than killing on a grand scale. Like a bad habit, war regularly changes its guise and is continually condemned - but it never really goes out of fashion. In their latest production "War Games", the mixed-age collective SKART & Masters of the Universe, together with performers from the inclusive ensemble Meine Damen und Herren, dedicate themselves to the phenomenon of war as a performative cultural history. Together with pupils from the Altona district school, they examine armed conflicts as social vicious circles. In the form of artistic endless loops, they pose the question: Why is "Never again!" not now?

About the participants:

SKART / Masters of the Universe is a cross-age performance collective from Hamburg with members aged between 8 and 40 that was founded at Kampnagel in 2013 with the aim of developing performance theater for all age groups and working together as equals and professionally despite age-related structural power imbalances. Since then, eight performances, a congress and a publication have been produced in cooperation with Kampnagel, as well as a remarkable artistic signature with a recognition effect and a fan community. For "War Games", the group has once again invited several members of the ensemble Meine Damen und Herren.

The inclusive Hamburg ensemble Meine Damen und Herren has regularly produced works at Kampnagel since 1995. In recent years, the artists have gradually moved away from their previous working methods as an ensemble with changing guest directors and set out to become a collective that develops its own projects on an equal footing and also implements structural participation in a sustainable way. In 2022, they were awarded the prestigious Tabori Prize for their artistic innovation and pioneering development. Meine Damen und Herren already collaborated with SKART & Masters of the Universe for the works "Welt ohne uns", "Spielen #1" and "Funny Games".
