SOMETHING SHARED

In the organizer's words:

Dance performance | By Anna Lublina
In cooperation with Sommerblut Kulturfestival and Reframing Dance - Mittelzentrum Tanz & Performance Köln

Rhythm travels, rhythm migrates, rhythm adapts, rhythm resists. Rhythm is a vibration that synchronizes one's own heartbeat with that of another. In this performance, rhythm embodies the Jewish diaspora and reaches back into the past of shared Jewish-Muslim worlds that were not defined by borders, nationalisms or the divisions created by colonialism.

The performance something shared by Anna Lublina is an artistic collaboration between artists with different diasporic identities, including Jewish and Palestinian. Based on archival research on shared Jewish-Muslim sound traditions - such as Uzbek Shashmaqam music, Talmudic prayers or agricultural practices - the artists experiment with tap dance and extended singing techniques. In this way, the performance asks what the history of diasporic Jewish rhythms - and their embodiments - can teach us in a present characterized by division and violence?
