Contemporary dance meets new sounds and the E-MEX ensemble's global understanding of music meets Germaine Acogny, the grande dame of African dance. The starting point for this artistic summit meeting on June 14 is the commemoration of the choreographer, dancer and exceptional artist James Saunders, on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of his death, E-MEX will perform two cross-genre concerts. Already world-famous as a solo dancer in the choreographies of Béjart, Balanchine and van Manen, as a choreographer James Saunders combined new and historical music, dance, visual art and performance in a novel way, fed by his artistic concept of diversity. He was particularly interested in a global artistic practice. The concert on June 14 will focus on the scenic-spatial blending of dance and musical action, with a globally inspired selection of music in which the connection with dance seems almost compelling, from the Indonesian-inspired Claude Vivier to the philosophical avant-gardist John Cage, the unleashed percussion explosions of Iannis Xenakis to the ritualistic artistic approach of the Spanish Maria de Alvear, who, like Germaine Acogny, had an artistic friendship and working relationship with James Saunders.
Following the performance, we will show the film "EYE" - Solo Performance James Saunders (1994, 45').
