On the trail of an anthropological expedition in 1959, the film takes us back to the world of southern Italian Tarantism - where women once sought redemption from the bite of a mythical spider in trance-like dances. Rare film footage from the archive merges with archaic landscapes and interweaves with intimate correspondence between the anthropologist Annabella and Anna, one of the dancing women. In this way, the fragile connection between researcher and subject comes to light. Hovering between memory and the present, the film shows how rituals and longings live on beyond folkloristic backdrops and touristy stagings. A hypnotic cinematic journey - a web of magic, history and personal destinies that are inextricably linked.
