The HU return to Germany for four shows this fall
Presented by Metal Hammer, MoreCore.de and Rock Antenne
Tradition meets modernity, old meets new, east meets west - the Mongolian rock band The HU inspires millions of fans worldwide with their unmistakable sound between traditional folk music and heavy metal.
The four band members Galbadrakh 'Gala' Tsendbaatar, Nyamjantsan 'Jaya' Galsanjamts, Enkhsaikhan 'Enkush' Batjargal and Temuulen 'Temka' Naranbaatar got to know each other when they were studying at the music conservatory in the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar in 2016. They wanted to create something new, a unique blend of heavy metal and their traditional instruments - they called it "Hunnu Rock" and themselves "The HU".
In 2018, they landed a viral hit on YouTube with their first song "Yuve Yuve Yu" and played their way into the hearts of countless international fans. With their debut album "The Gereg", released in 2019, they cemented themselves as a fantastic force of nature. The entirely Mongolian lyrics pick up on centuries-old poetry and war cries, while traditional throat singing is interspersed with classic rock melodies. Their declared aim: to show the world more of Mongolia's rich history and culture. The album title also promotes this mission - an allusion to a diplomatic passport under the legendary Mongol ruler Genghis Khan. And they are successful. In 2019, they became the first band ever to be awarded the "Order of Ghengis Khan", Mongolia's highest state honor. They were also the first Mongolian band to reach the top spot on a Billboard chart. The album "Rumble of Thunder", which followed in 2022, also showed the spiritual depth of their music and brought them sold-out international tours as well as appearances at the Glastonbury Festival and as support for Iron Maiden.
With over 900 million streams, The HU have become a force to be reckoned with in the rock and metal scene. Now they are working on their eagerly awaited third album - until then they have a full summer of festivals ahead of them. In the fall, The HU will also be coming to Germany for headline concerts, playing in Hamburg, Munich, Berlin and Cologne with special guest Skald.
