Is everything that is toxic really trash or have we been using the term excessively for a long time? What does trash TV have to do with (sexualized) violence? Are we all toxic or maybe just hurt? Can injury justify toxic behavior or only explain it? And when has the point been reached where we need to clearly distance ourselves instead of continuing to reach out? These questions are at the center of a special live podcast show from Trashologinnen x The Monday Talks. Between reality romance, group dynamics and pop culture, psychologists Alina, Dinah and Franzi analyze the mechanisms behind drama, power, manipulation and public outrage and build a bridge from the screen to our society. Using examples from shows such as Das Sommerhaus, Princess Charming, Are You The One? and Das Dschungelcamp, trashologists Dr. Dinah and Dr. Franzi show in their podcast what can be learned from reality TV about love, friendship, peer pressure and boundary violations. With a sound, humorous and scientific background, they classify psychological theories and current studies. Alina, founder of The Monday Talks, contributes her perspective as a social psychologist and activist. In her work, she creates spaces for honest conversations about equality, mental health and sexualized violence - both online and offline. Together, the three open up a space for discourse that takes pop culture seriously and at the same time critically scrutinizes it. The live show combines analysis and attitude, humor and depth.
