Wreckless Eric

As Wreckless Eric, he hardly needs an introduction - he wrote and recorded the classic "Whole Wide World", with which he scored a hit in 1977. Since then, the song has been covered by countless other artists, including The Monkees, Cage The Elephant and Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day. Eric's version was featured in the Expedia/Superbowl/Ewan McGregor travel commercial in 2022, while Cage The Elephant's version is now the new theme music for the podcast Smartless.

As Eric Goulden, the story is a little more complicated - musician, artist, writer, sound engineer and producer. He didn't like the music business, the mechanics of fame or the name he'd been given as a cover. So he withdrew from the limelight and immersed himself in the underground scene.

In the decades that followed, he released over twenty albums in more than forty years under various names - The Len Bright Combo, Le Beat Group Electrique, The Donovan Of Trash, The Hitsville House Band - and together with his wife as one half of Wreckless Eric & Amy Rigby. Eventually he realized that he would probably remain forever associated with the name Wreckless Eric.

His most recent album, "Leisureland" (2023), was widely acclaimed as his best work to date. His albums combine pop, bubblegum, garage trash and psychedelia - they are lyrical and sonic journeys, pop musical explosions, epic adventures and Polaroid snapshots all at once. His new album "England Screaming" will be released on November 21, 2025 by Tapete Records.
