The Neuer Berliner Kunstverein (n.b.k.) was founded in 1969 with the aim of encouraging a debate on contemporary art, communicating its socio-political significance and promoting young artistic developments. Several solo and group exhibitions, also in cooperation with other institutions and guest curators, can be seen in its rooms on Chausseestraße every year. The exhibitions are complemented by events and publications. Artist talks, panel discussions, workshops, seminars, performances, interventions and symposia actively involve visitors in the discourse on art and society.

Two unique collections in Germany - the Artothek collection and the n.b.k. Video-Forum - enable a broad public to participate in contemporary art. Founded in 1970, the Artothek comprises over 4,000 works of international art from the 20th and 21st centuries. Founded in 1971, the n.b.k. Video-Forum, founded in 1971, now comprises over 1,700 works of international video art with a collection focus on Fluxus, feminist video practice, historical and contemporary video art from Berlin and media-reflective approaches. It also acts as a co-producer of new works and regularly organizes screenings.

With its exhibition and discourse program, its collection activities and its publication series, the n.b.k. sees itself as a workshop of ideas and a lively place for Berlin's art scene.
