Feminist Day of Struggle in the Ruhr Area - Events for March 8, 2026
March 8 is Feminist Day of Struggle - a day dedicated to equality worldwide. We show you which events will be celebrating it in the Ruhr area in 2026! 💜
Before that, a quick check... Do you actually know how this day came about and what it's all about? It was established in 1910 by the German socialist Clara Zetkin as a day of action and originally referred to women's suffrage. Since then, many different topics have been addressed on March 8: Successes are celebrated, grievances are exposed and equal rights are demanded. In many countries, it is a day of protest, solidarity, visibility, remembrance and exchange.
And most importantly: MARCH 8 IS EVERYDAY! The feminist day of struggle is about political change. FLINTA* people fight together every day against inequality and discrimination in our society. Equality is still a long way off - from the gender pay gap and sexualized assaults to sexist role models. This doesn't just affect cisgender women. When we talk about International Women's Day, we mean all FLINTA* people who suffer under patriarchal structures!
We hope that, in addition to your fighting spirit and commitment, you simply have a great day. We recommend some suitable events that are taking place in the Ruhr region on March 8. Click through our overview and find your perfect mix of activism and cultural enjoyment! ✊✨
