The more than 200 cantatas by Johann Sebastian Bach are part of the world cultural heritage in the field of vocal music. However, they are rarely performed in concert halls and church services. Since 2011, conductor Andreas Spering has been offering the opportunity to experience Bach's cantata works anew in the atmospheric setting of the Schlosskirche with the "Bach um vier" concert series. For the new series, Spering has selected two cantatas from Bach's Weimar and Leipzig periods. The cantata "Gleichwie der Regen und Schnee vom Himmel fällt" (As rain and snow fall from heaven) is a special feature of Bach's music, if only because of its rather dark sound, characterized by four violas. In contrast, the admonishing cantata "They will put you under a spell" BWV 44 comes from his first Leipzig cantata cycle in 1724.
