CHALK w/ Makeshift Art Bar

When the post-punk/electronic formation Chalk from Belfast released its debut single "Them" in 2022, it didn't take long for it to be met with widespread enthusiasm. True to the motto "best of both worlds", Chalk is where musical worlds meet. On the one hand, the raw guitar power of unpolished post-punk and on the other, driving club and electronica beats. It's a concept that quickly resonates - and in combination with the strong visual side of Chalk's art, creates a dark overall concept that is engaging and novel. That aesthetics play as big a role in Chalk as the sound itself is unsurprising when looking at their band history. Founding members Ross Cullen (vocals), Benedict Goddard (guitar/synthesizer) and Luke Niblock (drums) met while studying film together. Inspired by the club scene of their Northern Irish homeland Belfast and the band culture of neighboring Dublin, they created a sound that uncompromisingly combines elements of different genres and is reminiscent of bands such as Idles or Nine Inch Nails, but also of Bicep or Daniel Avery. Just one year after the release of their debut single, the band launched their "Conditions" EP project, three of which have been released in recent years - most recently the "Conditions III" EP at the beginning of this year. Since then, two more singles have been released, "Pain" and the recently released "Can't Feel It", in which Chalk show their usual powerful and versatile inspiration - and which they will certainly also be playing on their upcoming European tour. The multi-layered sound is complemented by a live performance that is second to none, as Chalk have already proven on a sold-out headline tour and at various major festival appearances this summer. Driving performances, an energetic atmosphere and high intensity have characterized the Belfast band's concerts from the very beginning. In November, they will embark on their first US tour before playing their biggest headline shows to date in the UK and Europe next year. Those who want to see for themselves will have the chance to do so next April. Chalk will be coming to Berlin for a show to present the current state of their discography.
