Cass McCombs

Sometimes you get the feeling that an artist only really arrives when he has taken a detour. That's the case with Cass McCombs. The man whose songs have always been a world of their own released his fantastic double album "Interior Live Oak" in August 2025 and is now finally touring Germany with it, almost a year later. And the record is exactly what you want from a double album: focused and yet expansive.

The fact that he is back with Domino, his old label, where he released his classics "Wit's End" and "Catacombs" between 2008 and 2013, has probably done him good. It seems as if he has gone back to the basics. "Interior Live Oak" returns to the more direct song structures of his early days. And he has his people with him again: Jason Quever from Papercuts and Chris Cohen. These are the guys he used to write the songs with when everything was still in its infancy. And most of it was recorded in Northern California, practically at home. You can feel it: this grounding, this authenticity.
