For her outstanding studies on sexuality, power and biopolitics in the 20th century, New York historian Dagmar Herzog has been awarded the Günther Anders Prize for Critical Thinking 2026. In her latest book "The New Fascist Body" (Wirklichkeit Books), she shows that modern right-wing ideologies function strongly through body images - through ideas of health, strength and gender. Contemporary right-wing radicalism is characterized, among other things, by hostility towards the disabled and anti-LGBTQ politics as well as a "desire for aggression, meanness and violence". Dagmar Herzog talks to Christian Dries (Chairman of the International Günther Anders Society) about how the new authoritarian body ideals can be countered by historical enlightenment and social solidarity. The laudatory speech will be given by the renowned historian of science Michael Hagner.
