Playwright Yasmina Reza ("James Brown Wore Curlers") is fascinated by court cases, and her book of stories summarizes her observations of the past few years. She laconically and pointedly observes the moments in which incomprehensible deeds have to be judged, conflicting statements have to be found to be true or false, and whole lives are often at the tipping point. She juxtaposes emotional outbursts with sober factual reports, monstrous acts of violence with fraud and failure to provide assistance. As if in passing, she captures a panorama of human existence - from the precariat to the highest echelons of government.

In-house director Nora Schlocker adapts the texts for the stage and allows the ensemble and audience to review the trials together. To what extent can a case be reconstructed in court? Which facts are decisive for our partisanship, for our empathy? Or, as in the theater, is the performance on the witness stand ultimately decisive?

"The reverse side of life" is a plea for the fragility of every life and our assumptions of justice.
