The Emil Brandqvist Trio from Scandinavia has long been one of the top European piano jazz formations. The ensemble is made up of the Swedish drummer and composer Emil Brandqvist, the Finnish pianist Tuomas A. Turunen and the Swedish bassist Max Thornberg. Since their debut "Breathe Out" (2013), the trio has won the hearts of jazz lovers across Europe with poetic melodies, complex arrangements and a unique sound aesthetic. The trio's music combines elements of jazz, classical music and Nordic folklore, carried by atmospheric harmonies and a deeply felt sense of melody. At the same time, the trio remains stylistically challenging and yet very accessible. The trio's previous releases have already set standards: Several albums have climbed to the top positions of the German jazz charts, their work "Entering the Woods" reached number 2. In addition, the band was honored with a Special Award in 2024 for over 50 million streams of their tracks, an extraordinary mark for the instrumental jazz genre. These successes reflect not only the quality of their music, but also their great resonance with the public. With their latest work "Poems for Travelers" (release date: April 4, 2025), they take a step back to the core: the trio, for the first time without any guests, focuses entirely on the interplay between the three voices. Based on compositions by the three musicians, the pieces unfold with melodic clarity, emotional depth and chamber music sensitivity. By reaching number 1 in the German jazz charts for "Poems for Travellers", the band has now finally crowned its ten-year success story.
