For Silvia Federici, current resistance to destructive turbo-capitalism is part of an ongoing uprising against the enclosure of common land and social relations. In Europe, land privatization began in the late 15th century, at the same time as colonial expansion. In her groundbreaking work Caliban and the Witch, Federici examines the history of women in the transition from feudalism to capitalism. She interprets the persecution of witches, which lasted three centuries, as an unprecedented war against women, in which hundreds of thousands fell victim. Their power had to be crushed so that capitalism could develop. Because they are severely affected by displacement and environmental destruction, women still play a central role in the struggles for the commons today. How do we create new forms of cooperation that include our natural environment?
