Herat International Women's Film Festival in Exile

Welcome to the Herat International Women's Film Festival, Afghanistan's first international women's film festival! After ten years of success, the festival was forced into exile by the Taliban takeover; from the USA, festival founder Roya Sadat is trying against all odds to keep it active. By offering him a stage, we are expressing our solidarity and ensuring that the cinematic achievements of Afghan women directors are not forgotten. Alka Sadat, co-director of the festival, will be our guest in conversation.

All in one room: the female stars of the Afghan cultural scene. The singer Mozhdah Jamalzadah, the first beauty queen "Ms Afghan" Vida Samadzai, the well-known journalist Nelofer Pazira and others. They are all activists for women's rights, they all live in exile. Intimate interviews, archive footage and metaphorical dream sequences make this film an empowering experience.
