Georg Lukács is one of the most influential philosophers of the 20th century. His horizon of experience is the failure of the revolution in the West between 1916 and 1923. He dealt with "superstructure" phenomena: from literary sociology to cultural criticism and the history of ideas. At the same time, he emphasized the importance of political practice for overcoming capitalism and thus turned against the "revolutionary assassinationism" of the Second International. With his rehabilitation of the philosophical foundations of Marxism with reference back to Hegelian dialectics and his work on "reification", Lukács had a significant influence on "Western Marxism", including the Frankfurt School.
