In a world of increasing tensions, this event explores the possibilities of peace. The panel brings together voices from the social sciences, peace research and journalism to highlight perspectives on peace in unpeaceful times. It is about an expanded understanding of peace as an active social practice: as a culture of peace that cultivates relationships, creates visions of the future and focuses on cooperation.

The event will also explore the question of what it means for democracy and political imagination when military ways of thinking become the guiding maxim.

Joana Osman is an author and co-founder of the Israeli-Palestinian-Iranian peace movement "The Peace Factory". Her essay Peace, a Real Utopia was published in 2025.

Özge Inan is a freelance journalist who writes mainly about migration, women's rights and human rights.

Susanne Buckley-Zistel is Professor of Peace and Conflict Studies at Philipps University Marburg and project leader of the research project "Human Rights Crimes, Norm-Entrepreneurs and the Implementation of the Principle of International Law in Germany".
