Sascha Lange und André Postert: Jugend im Nationalsozialismus

The event sheds light on the lives of young people during the Nazi era from two different perspectives. Using the example of the 'Leipziger Meuten', Sascha Lange will show how young people created their own youth culture in a self-determined and autonomous way and evaded capture by the Nazi regime. André Postert describes the lives of children and young people in the Hitler Youth (HJ) and shows that here, too, the claims of the Nazi regime and the reality often did not coincide.

The research of both historians deals with the questions of when, how and under what conditions deviant behavior or youth opposition was possible in the Nazi state - and how the Nazi regime reacted to it. The aggravation of the situation during the war is also addressed, for example through the introduction of "compulsory youth service" or the inclusion of the Hitler Youth in the defense of the Reich. The specific situation in Munich is also discussed.

Sascha Lange trained as a theater carpenter in Leipzig and studied history, journalism and political science there. He received his doctorate with a thesis on youth between non-adaptation and resistance in Leipzig during the Nazi era. He now works as a freelance author and historian in Leipzig. André Postert studied history and social sciences at the University of Duisburg-Essen and received his doctorate with a thesis on the young conservative movement in the Weimar Republic. During his time as a research assistant at the Hannah Arendt Institute for Totalitarianism Research at the TU Dresden, he wrote a study on the Hitler Youth. Today he works for the Brandenburg Ministry of the Interior in Potsdam. In 2021, his book Die Hitlerjugend. Geschichte einer überforderten Massenorganisation was published by Vandenhoeck und Ruprecht.
