In the organizer's words:
Taras Shevchenko was born a serf in central Ukraine in 1814 and orphaned as a child. Because of his extraordinary talent, his master allowed him to study painting in St. Petersburg. In 1838, prominent painters and writers finally organized a lottery to buy the young man's freedom. But this did not quench his thirst for freedom. He dreamed of a world of self-determination and justice. His collection of poems "Kobsar" became a milestone in Ukrainian literature. But because it is considered "revolutionary", he is arrested in Kiev in 1847.
While Svitlana Kavka brings the enchanting poetry of the lyricist closer to the audience with bandura, a Ukrainian lute zither, and singing (mezzo-soprano), Mark Zak paints a vivid portrait of the outstanding artist with wit, humor and without any pathos, drawing an arc up to the present day.
