Klezmer dances and Yiddish songs, sounds from the Balkans and Rembetiko: WEDDING KLEZMER dedicates itself to this music with passion. The languages of the songs are as numerous and varied as the instruments. The songs are not only sung in Yiddish and Greek.
The Berlin band has been playing together for almost a quarter of a century. Most of the musicians got to know each other in the Berlin district of Wedding at a workshop run by composer and trumpeter Paul Brody. Since then, they have been making music as a quartet and quintet, arranging traditional instrumental pieces and songs. Uwe Sauerwein, who has been active in the Berlin Yiddish scene for decades, both as a soloist and as a singer in the Kasbek ensemble, joined the band four years ago.
Stefan Aab (accordion) Jannis Lilge (trumpet, bouzouki, vocals, percussion) Uwe Sauerwein (guitar, vocals) Thomas Gruner-Szur (clarinet, bass clarinet, double bass) Reiner Rowald (double bass, baglama, mandola, vocals)
