Around 1970: 15-year-old orphan Jeanne meets Christina, the leading actress in a film adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's fairy tale The Snow Queen. The actress is fascinated by the girl and exerts a dangerous influence on her. Hadžihalilović unfolds a dense, dream-like narrative about a young woman whose encounter with an older actress and her film project is increasingly characterized by projections, desire and identity shifts. The film is less interested in psychological clarity than in states of uncertainty and transition. The relationship between the two is characterized by ambivalence: Admiration, dependence, identification and erotic desire overlap without ever being clearly established. The film thus eludes heteronormative narrative patterns of development and dissolution and instead describes a relational desire that remains fluid and asymmetrical. It is a film of projections - not only within the plot, but also in relation to the audience. Hadžihalilović calls for a way of viewing that endures ambiguity and does not fix meanings.
