The courtesan Violetta Valéry is seriously ill. She drugs herself at parties with clients and alcohol. Until she meets the bourgeois Alfredo Germont. They fall in love, move to the country and lead a happy life. It could be so easy. But Alfredo's father fears for his family's reputation. The couple have to separate. And Violetta's health is increasingly deteriorating. With La Traviata, Verdi denounces the social prejudices of his time. His music reveals the love and tragedy of the couple with an empathy that has been shocking since the premiere in 1853 and made the opera one of the most successful of all.
