She is a passionate fan of the German language and also appreciates the freedom to switch between languages: Sharon Dodua Otoo. Her poetry lectures, language columns and her new novel explore the possibilities in a vivid and captivating way.

A summer car journey ends in a deadly escalation. What exactly happened? The English-Ghanaian-German author and Bachmann Prize winner Sharon Dodua Otoo tells the story of a woman who violently breaks free from old attributions and experiences freedom as a risky but necessary act of self-assertion ("This, roughly, is how it happened", S. Fischer).

Sharon Dodua Otoo consciously moves between languages and cultural spaces and negotiates questions of identity, racism and empowerment. She talks to the Swiss-Romanian literature festival curator Dana Grigorcea about the freedom that changes of perspective offer for one's own writing.
