Switzerland: in the middle of Europe and yet neutral, independent, "free". What about Switzerland's responsibility in Europe - given the global situation? Can the Swiss Confederation continue to afford its neutral position?
Daniel Binswanger, Co-Editor-in-Chief of the independent Swiss online magazine "Republik", asks two of the country's most prominent politically engaged writers.
Zora del Buono(Swiss Book Prize 2024 for "Seinetwegen") questions supposed idylls with an analytical eye, as in her story "Tanz der Fliegen" (in the "Das Gramm" series), in which she has rich Swiss people dream of early retirement. In her latest novel "Tal der Schwalben" (Diogenes), author and journalist Seraina Kobler, on the other hand, sketches a not-too-distant Swiss future in which the cities have grown together to form a "metropolitan area", while the Alps have been declared an exclusion zone for electricity supply. The three of them discuss the tensions between a special national path and global responsibility.
