It's best read at home on the sofa or in your favorite armchair. Alone. Or is it? For the first time at the Munich Literature Festival: Silent Reading.
Anyone who has ever caught the recognizing gaze of other readers in a café, who has suddenly struck up a conversation about their own or someone else's reading, knows that happiness shared is happiness doubled and together you read less alone.
As part of the Munich Literature Festival 2026, Franziska Osterhammer and Miriam Liesting, Munich residents and passionate readers, invite you to read together in silence. You can read whatever you like, whether it's a novel, non-fiction book, poetry or comic. The only requirement is that the books brought along should deal with
whatever way, deal with "freedom".
The "Was München liest" series began in 2025, and since then the meetings have been held at various locations in loose succession. All information is available all year round on Instagram at @wasmuenchenliest.
In the library at the Literaturhaus, participants read books they have brought themselves - so simple, so beautiful, for half an hour to just under an hour. Afterwards, a moderated discussion in small groups invites you to make new friends among like-minded people. And for anyone who doesn't have their own book with them, there will be a book table with a selection of titles to borrow. See you at the reading event!
Free admission. Registration at mail@literaturhaus-muenchen.de
Group size: up to 40 people
Organizer: Literaturfest München // In cooperation with @wasmuenchenliest
