In 1941, the SS and their helpers murdered over 27,000 Jews in the Rumbula forest. The pits in which the people were shot were constructed by SS officer Ernst Hemicker. He was never convicted for this. Decades later, his grandson Lorenz Hemicker grows up with a vague idea of the crime his grandfather was guilty of. When his father dies unexpectedly, Lorenz Hemicker sets off alone on the trail of his grandfather to Latvia. In the NS-DOK he talks about the questions of German guilt and the knowledge of it in the families.
