How did it come about that a critical examination of Nazi crimes gradually became established in Cologne from the 1970s onwards? What public debates, conflicts and resistance shaped this process?
In a personal-political discussion, publicist Martin Stankowski and historian Dr. Karola Fings look back at the controversy surrounding the Nazi past in Cologne from the 1970s to the 2000s using selected photographs, documents and objects relating to the EL-DE House, the trade fair camp, forced labor, the deportation of Sinti*zze and Rom*nja and other topics. The focus is on the decisive role of civic engagement in the development of Cologne's culture of remembrance.
