As the eighth of ten children, young Michael Jackson (Juliano Krue Valdi) is drilled for a career in music at an early age under the strict guidance of his father Joe (Colman Domingo). He celebrates his first successes with the family band Jackson Five, and at the age of 13 he embarks on a solo career. Even as an adult (Jaafar Jackson), his life was dominated by music. At the end of the 1970s, he met Diana Ross (Kat Graham) and producer Quincy Jones (Kendrick Sampson) while working on a movie, which fundamentally changed his musical direction. The album "Off the Wall" (1979), produced by Jones, was a great success, which was surpassed in 1982 by the groundbreaking and best-selling album "Thriller". Parallel to this rise, there was a break with his father Joe, whom Jackson dismissed as manager and replaced with the lawyer John Branca (Miles Teller).
