On May 5, actions have been taking place nationwide for over 30 years to mark the European Day of Protest for the Equality of People with Disabilities. In view of current crises and the threat of social cuts, Neue Medien e.V. is appealing to politicians and society to consistently implement inclusion. Progress that has been made is at stake; the goal must be the unrestricted participation of all people.

Under the slogan "Human rights are non-negotiable!", activists are calling for comprehensive accessibility and genuine participation in all life decisions. "An inclusive society must not remain a promise for the future," emphasizes Christina Marx, spokesperson for Aktion Mensch.

To make the need for a barrier-free society visible, Neue Medien e.V. is inviting people to a special event at Café Bach in Cologne on May 5 from 6 to 9 pm.

"Together we are campaigning for a society without barriers. With literary contributions and poetic statements, we are making our demands heard," says Michael Zgonjanin.

Background and support

Around 500 events will take place across Germany from May 2 to 10. Aktion Mensch is supporting these activities with funding and materials. An overview of all dates can be found on the campaign map at www.aktion-mensch.de/5mai. Protests will be held on social networks under the hashtag #5May.

Raise your voice. Whether it's a poem, short text, manifesto or statement: find your form and speak out about participation, accessibility and self-determination. You don't have to be a professional - just have something to say.

We will support you with the realization - on stage or digitally (audio/video). Your contributions will be published live at Café Bach in Cologne and online.

Present your contribution on May 5 (6-9 p.m.):

- live on site

- via broadcast (e.g. Zoom)

- as a submitted audio/video contribution

Formats (max. 5 minutes):

Short texts, poems, slams, manifestos, clips ("Statement in 60 seconds") or audio/video formats. Assistance with writing or presenting is possible.

Prizes:

1. 1st place: 150 € | 2nd place: 100 € | 3rd place: 50 €
